Food Storage Recipes – Chicken Fried Rice

Photo courtesy of jeffreyw on Flickr

I’ll be getting back to my “Food Storage Basics” series later this week.  Life got hectic this weekend and will continue through the first part of this week.  So I thought I’d start sharing some of our favorite food storage recipes.  Fried rice is a really simple recipe that my boys just gobble up.  It’s really easy to make with only food storage items and it’s a healthy meal.  When fresh items are available, you can use the

Chicken Fried Rice

2 cups cooked brown rice
1 small can peas and carrots OR 1/2 cup rehydrated dried carrots and 1/2 cup rehydrated dried peas
1 (6 oz) can chicken
4 tbsp. coconut oil (or any oil)
3 tbsp. soy sauce
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Salt & Pepper

In a skillet add all ingredients and stir fry until warmed thorough.  If you have fresh foods available, this recipe will be improved with 3 scrambled eggs, 1/2 a fresh chopped onion and butter to replace oil.  Even without the fresh items this is a simple and delicious recipe!

Update 08/22/11 – Winners Announcement

Congratulations to the following ladies for winning “The Titus 2 Woman” giveaways!!

Grand Prize Winner – Kelly (@AxLady)

2 winners of the Ebook – Sarah W (sarahsewta@yahoo.com) & Katherine A (@mumoffunkids)

Congratulations ladies!  Please contact me at susan@susangodfrey.com with your mailing address, and I’ll get your gift out to you this weekend. I need to hear back from you within 24 hours, or another winner will be chosen. Again, congratulations!!

Did you know I recently wrote a book entitled “The Titus 2 Woman”?  I decided to write this little devotional book because finding women who have been trained to be Titus 2 women has gotten harder and harder in today’s world. This type of woman is truly becoming an endangered species! It’s a sad fact, but modern churches are just not teaching the “aged women” to become Titus 2 mentors and women just are not stepping up to mentor the younger women in the church. This is part of the reason I think so many of the young women in today’s church are floundering and turning away from Godly womanhood. They are just not being taught how to be Godly women. Too many churches today are pushing a twisted form of womanhood that has more in common with feminism and worldly standards than Godly standards. It is truly a sad state!

Just what traits does the Bible say a Godly woman should posses? Titus 2: 3-5 lays these traits out to us in a simple and plain way.

The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behavior as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. — Titus 2:3-5(KJV)

When you look at these verses, you can plainly see that what God requires from a Godly woman. “The Titus 2 Woman” by Susan Godfrey, dissect these eleven qualities to help us understand exactly what is expected of us as we grow and mature as Christians.

Today, August 12, 2011, I am officially launching the book to sale for only $2.99  at my personal website, Amazon and Barnes & Noble!!  It’s been getting really good buzz at Amazon and Barnes & Noble and has been rated highly well at both stores.  I am so excited to be able to bring this book to you all at such  a reasonable price and I am thrilled and blessed to know that people are enjoying it and finding it useful in their own Christian walk.

So, in honor of my book’s launch, I am hosting a giveaway!!

Food Storage Basics – Introduction

Photo courtesy of Scorpions and Centaurs on Flickr

I’m going to be having a whole series about Food Storage Basics in the next few weeks.  I’ll be posting them randomly as I get them finished up.  I hope you enjoy this series!

Introduction – Why Stock Up?

There are many reasons why people choose to stock up on food and supplies.  You never know when a natural disaster, a man-made disaster, terrorism, sickness outbreak or personal emergency will pop up.  Being prepared in the event of an emergency is simply a wise thing to do.  This is an important area that people sometimes forget when planning for the future.  Plenty of people went hungry during the great depression in the 1920’s because they did not think ahead and plan well for the future.

The most common reason for stocking up is for a natural disaster or personal emergency.  What would you do if your house was flooded or stuck by a tornado?  What about if you were to lose your job or fall ill?  What if the main breadwinner in your family should suddenly die?  These are all good reasons to stock up on food and supplies.  Stocking up for events of this nature is just a wise idea.  You never know when an event like this will strike.  With the economy like it is, it is becoming even more important to prepare for just these sorts of events.  Food and gas prices are rising at an alarming rate and I know that people out there are hurting because of it.  There are times when having a surplus supply of food and other necessities comes in handy.   Unless you are independently wealthy, you have to plan for unexpected things.

Another reason people stock up is to prepare for man-made disasters.  This includes things like terrorism, economic collapse, war, and other sort of emergencies.  I remember how crazy it got during Y2K.  People were panicking, running out and buying a bunch of things that they didn’t really need.  This taught me a good lesson.    When planning for events such as these we need to think calmly and make a plan.  Too often, people who stock up for these reasons are considered paranoid.  But to me, they are just being careful.  I know I don’t want to be with out supplies if things should get tough in the future.
