Saving Money on Yarn & Crafts Supplies and Creative @ Home Wednesday Link-Up Party

Saving Money on Yarn & Crafting Supplies

Don’t forget to join in the Creative @ Home Link-Up Party! To find it, simply scroll down to the bottom of this post! We’d love to have you join us! Link any and all the creative things you do at home!

Since I’ve been doing a lot of crochet and knitting lately for charity, I’ve started looking for inexpensive sources for yarn. One place that I’ve found yarn and other crafting supplies cheap was at my local Salvation Army Thrift stores. Since seeing the yarn there so cheaply, I’ve been keeping my eyes open at all the thrift stores I frequent, as well as garage sales. Another good source is to ask for the items on Freecycle. A few years ago, I got a huge trash bag full of fabric. Some of it I couldn’t use, but there were several pieces large enough to make dresses or skirts from. Last, but not least, ask around at church, a lot of times people have yarn or craft supplies they aren’t using that they would be more than happy to get rid of. I just let the ladies at church know about my charity crochet and knitting and have had several of them give me yarn to work with. I’d also place an want ad on Craig’s list. So often people have left overs from projects or have inherited yarn that they don’t know what to do with and would be more than willing and happy to get it out of their house. It never hurts to ask and it certainly doesn’t cost anything to ask!

Biblical Response to Feminism – Part 1 & Feminine Friday Link-Up Party!

Don’t forget to join in the Don’t forget to join in the Feminine Friday Link-Up Party, just scroll down to join! Feminine Friday is all about those things that make a Christian woman feminine and girly! We are looking for all your fashion, hair/make-up tips, articles about being a Christian woman–pretty much any thing about being “girly” from a Christian woman’s standpoint!

This article is part 1 of a 3 part series on the Biblical Response to Feminism.

Feminism is a belief system that is suppose to support women and make their lives better. Not all feminists believe all the same things. There are so many different movements within feminism. I am not a feminist. I am a Christian. As a Christian, I do not agree with modern feminism. It is a selfish belief system disguised as the social betterment of the treatment of women. Feminism is deeply rooted in self-love and self-happiness. That’s really what feminism is all about. They claim it’s all about a woman being free to choose to live their own lives however they want–freedom of choice. But that is contrary to what Scripture tells us. Any teaching that tells us to turn our attention to self is wrong and sinful. Does that mean that all feminist movements are sinful? No, I don’t think so. I think some of the original movements of feminism were truly for the betterment of the treatment of women. Modern feminism is a whole different animal.

I do not feel that modern feminism’s beliefs can be justified through scripture and that much of what they teach is actually anti-Christian.  I felt led to discuss three of the most prevalent movements in modern feminism and defend my beliefs with scripture. So over the next three Fridays, I’m going to be posting about these three movements.    I am simply a woman who wants to please God more than I want to please myself or others.  I don’t care to look through the distorted glasses of feminism.  Are most (or any) feminists going to agree with me? Probably not.  All I ask, is that you respect my views.  I have no issues with comments that may disagree with my point of view, but please be respectful.

Women’s Right to Be Equally Treated as Men

Most feminists believe that women should be held in equal regard as men on all levels. They should receive the same pay for doing the same job. I won’t argue that.   I want to compare what feminine teaches about sexual equality to what scripture says.   I believe that men and women were created equal and that the Lord does not make any distinction between men and women in regard to their personal worth.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  Galatians 3:28 (NASB)

While men and women are of equal worth, that doesn’t mean that we’re the same and have the same roles.  The Lord made us different from one another and men and women have different roles to play. I do believe that there simply are some roles a woman just shouldn’t play.

But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.  I Timothy 212 (NASB)

A woman should not be in authority over men.  The reason for this is because God created man first and then created woman from the man.  Also, it was woman who was deceived in the garden and then fell into transgression (sin).

A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.  But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.  For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.  And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.  I Timothy 2:11-14 (NASB)

A woman’s husband is her authority and she should be in subjection to her husband.  Subjection simply means being under the power, control and government of another.

Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.  But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.  Ephesians 511-14 (NASB)

Now before you get in a tizzy about how being under the power and control of a man leads to abuse, take a look at what the Bible instructs a husband to do.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,  Ephesians 5:25 (NASB)

So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;  for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,  Ephesians 5:28-29 (NASB)

So if a man mistreats his wife, it’s the same as mistreating his own body.  He is to give up his life even for his wife as Christ did for the church.  An abusive husband has fallen into sin and there is NEVER anything to justify their actions.  If a woman is ever in danger of physical abuse, she needs to remove herself from the situation and get help.

It was evident from the very beginning that men were to be in authority over women.    Women were created by God to be their husband’s helper.

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”  Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.  The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.  So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place.   The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.  Genesis 2:18-24

God decreed that man would rule over women.  God gave the role of authority and leadership to men over women.

To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”  Genesis 3:16 (NASB)

From the very beginning the primary role of the man was as “keeper” (provider) and the woman’s role was defined as “helper”.

Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.  Genesis 2:15 (NASB)

Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”  Genesis 2:18 (NASB) {you can read the entire account from Genesis 2:18-24 further up in the article.}

Man is considered the primary provider and teacher in the home and the wife is his assistant in home and family duties.

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.  I Timothy 5:8 (NASB)

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.  Ephesians 6:4 (NASB)

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.  Titus 2:3-5 (NASB)

This does not mean a woman CANNOT work outside of the home.  But a woman’s primary focus should be to her husband, children and home.

I know that there are people who will not agree with me on this, and that’s fine. Some will argue that it’s a cultural issue. But, I believe that that Bible is either completely true or completely false. You either believe WHAT IT SAYS or you interpret it to fit what you want it to say. I will trust in the word of God over the word of Man any day of the week. In my opinion and in the Word of God, a woman should be under the authority of men, yet many disregard what the Bible says and do it anyway or try to justify their actions. God can most certainly use women to further His Kingdom and there are MANY opportunities to do so which do not include having authority over men.

Why Use Homemade Natural Cleaners?

There are really many different reasons for using homemade cleaners. In this blog post, I am going to talk about the two that matter the most to me: they’re frugal and they are safer for your family. Most contain items that you may already have in your home, such as hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and baking soda. They are simple to mix up and use. But the most important thing is that they CLEAN your house effectively.

Homemade Cleaners are Frugal

Homemade cleaners are so inexpensive and frugal. Most “recipes” call for simple ingredients that may very likely already be found in your home. I’ve been making my own for some time and RARELY purchase commercial cleaners. This has saved me a ton of money over the years. I make my own scouring scrub, glass cleaner, multipurpose cleaner, laundry detergent, laundry aids and so much more. Homemade cost pennies on the dollar compared to commercially made ones. So making your own can save you a lot of money!

Homemade Cleaners are Healthier for Your Family

Let’s face it, the majority of commercial cleaners contain all sorts of chemicals which are hazardous to humans. Yet, we’re still expected to use them to “clean” our homes. Our homes may then be clean of dirt and bacterial, but now they are filled with the fumes of those chemicals. More and more people each year are finding themselves having allergies to all sorts of chemicals. Many of them are harmful to our skin and are known carcinogens. Do you really want that in your home? Making your own homemade cleaners ensures that you know just what is going into them.

What are YOUR reasons for using homemade & natural cleaners?

Stuffing Meatballs

This has to be the easiest recipe for meatballs ever and boy are they yummy!  I made about 2 inch sized meatballs and my 8 year old ate 6 of them!  That’s how yummy they are.  This would be so easy to double or triple and make a big batch for the freezer to use to make a quick lunch or dinner.  So if you’re looking for something quick, inexpensive and easy then this recipe is for you!

http://susangodfrey.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=8174&action=edit

Stuffing Meatballs

2 lbs. ground beef or turkey
1 box stuffing mix (the flavor of your choice)

Preheat oven to 400°.  Crush the stuffing into crumbs.  Mix thoroughly with the ground meat.  Roll into 2 inch balls and bake for 25-20 minutes.

I served these with broccoli with garlic butter sauce and mashed potatoes.  Yummy!  But these would be great covered in spaghetti sauce, alfredo sauce or even barbecue sauce!

Our Homeschooling Philosophy & Back to School Monday Link-Up Party!!

If I had to “label” our homeschooling philosophy, I’d have to say that it’s a fusion of the Charlotte Mason and Classical Education approaches.  I believe the goal of any education is to teach the student how to learn and how to find the answers to his questions.  I also believe that we need to teach our children HOW to teach themselves.  If a child learns to read well and can do basic math, they are perfectly equipped to start self-teaching.  This helps Mom/Teacher, but most importantly it sets a child up for a lifetime of learning.  Self-teaching allows the child to be able to continue to learn throughout his life on his own.  It also helps them to be more successful in higher education and in life in general.

For Kindergarten and 1st grade, our focus was on Bible, learning to read and math.  All other subjects are secondary and have been worked in via read-aloud books.  For 2nd grade, we started expanding all the other subjects and start having more structured lessons.  This fall we will begin 3rd grade work, and the structured lessons are firmly in place.

I like Charlotte Mason’s use of living books and I try to include them whenever applicable, especially for History.  I believe that children are more likely to remember history when these books are used.  Historical fiction is another tool I use to help them learn History.  They are enjoyable and really help to draw the children into the story of history.  BUT, it’s important to use only quality, historically accurate books.

I love the way logic is used in Classical education.  I also really love that they focus on the child self-teaching.  This isn’t laziness on my part, I honestly believe that this is something SERIOUSLY missing from public education.  Too many children leave public school and have no idea how to study and/or learn on their own.  They have been fed the information they need to “pass the test” and that’s it.  That is not true education.    This is the reason why many young adults do not know basic historical facts and important events and individuals in history.

So, that’s my homeschooling philosophy.

Getting Back to the Basics

Things have changed in the Church over the years. We have strayed from the basic doctrine of our past. We have replaced it with a watered down, wishy-washy doctrine that looks nothing like the doctrine of the Bible. We need to get back to the basics! Nowadays, too many churches and Christians think that they can pick and choose what to believe in God’s Words. They want to do things the easy way or they want to be politically correct, so as to not offend anyone. But the fact of the matter is, that we need to do things the right way, which ultimately is God’s way.

Let’s first look at the word “doctrine”. Doctrine is the act or result of teaching. In a general sense, it is whatever is taught. It is the instruction and confirmation of the truths of the gospel. The bible is the textbook for the practicing Christian. It contains all the instruction we will ever need. II Timothy 3:16 says

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”.

So, as you can see, everything we need to know about being a Christian is found in the Bible. The problem is, that many modern churches do not teach the correct, Bible based doctrine found in God’s Word. They are preaching only what the people want to hear. They don’t preach the true Gospel doctrine because they are afraid of offending someone, or losing church members. This is Blasphemy. II Timothy 4:3-4 says

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

This is what the modern Church is doing in general. They are not teaching sound Biblical doctrine. They are teaching a watered down Gospel that is MAN MADE, not God made! God never changes his message; it is always the same. So, just how has the Church changed over the years? Let’s take a look.

First of all, the preaching has changed. Many churches do not preach that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. They often lead members to believe that salvation is based on works, and this is a false teaching. Preachers often don’t preach the Word of God in fear of upsetting people with the truth. Many churches don’t preach at all of sin or hell. They only want to preach what the people want to hear. They preach a Gospel so watered down that it would fit in a thimble and not come close to filling it up! Also, many preachers don’t even believe in many things in the Bible, such as Creation, the Virgin Birth, and the Death and Resurrection of Christ. For example, they may preach that God created the world by the big bang or that each day represented millions of years, instead of the truth…that He created the world and everything in it on seven actual days. Another problem is that many preachers just don’t understand the scripture. They don’t study it, they don’t pray for understanding, and they are just preaching what they have been told by other people or what the congregation wants to hear.

The second way that the church has changed is that the members are not being taught the proper way to pray. Many Christians are not praying for each other and are not communicating with God on a daily basis through prayer. When we get distracted and don’t pray on a daily basis, that’s when Satan sneaks in and we fall into temptation. We have got to be in constant communication with God! We are not being taught to pray for things that we want or need with in God’s will. It’s not what we want, but what God wants for us. I see many modern churches teaching the concept of wealth through prayer. This is another false doctrine. We need to pray for the things that we want or need, but be willing to accept whatever God gives us. Not all of us are meant to be wealthy and this is something that needs to be according to God’s will. We should not pray for selfish needs or for selfish purposes. We really need to be careful of what we ask God for.

A third way that the church has changed, is than many Christians aren’t reading their Bibles, they are relying solely on what their pastors tell them. As Christians we should be reading God’s Word on a daily basis. Along with prayer this is our best weapon. If we don’t read and understand the Word of God, we don’t truly know what we believe. False prophets and teachers will often lead you astray. It is imperative to know the true doctrine of the Bible so you can spot these folks from miles away. The Bible is the sole doctrine of the Christian church and it was made available for EVERYONE to read, not just a few chosen few. Whenever you are in doubt about a doctrine being taught, go to the Word and research it. Just because a pastor says it’s so, doesn’t mean that it is. And, too often modern Churches twist the Scriptures to meet their own needs and not the needs of God. Scripture should back up all doctrine of a church and the only way to spot false doctrine is to read and know the Word of God.

The final way that churches have changed is in the atmosphere of church. Contemporary services have taken the seriousness away from church and made it more into a way to entertain the congregation. People go to church to be entertained and not to receive the message of the Gospel. Loud music, slide shows, skits and more are being used that distract the congregation from the things of God. Membership in many churches is open to everyone, regardless of their beliefs or lifestyle. Modern churches want everyone to feel good and accepted, regardless of their false beliefs or their sinful lifestyles. The Word of God is meant to offend the sinner, it is meant to turn them away from their sin. Hebrews 4:10 says

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

So what should a Christian do to counteract the false teachings and doctrines of the modern Church? First of all, go to the Christians secret weapon, the Word of God. We need to read and study the Word of God on a daily basis. We need to pray and communicate with God daily as well. These two things will help more than anything else. Start off by reading and understanding Romans. This will teach you what a Christian should believe. Read John and find out about the life of Christ and what he taught. Read Acts to find out the actions of a disciple of Christ. Then go and read the rest of the New Testament. If you’re going to pass the test, you have got to read the textbook and study it! Find out what your are doing wrong, find out the false doctrines and teachings of your church (if any). Bring the false teachings and doctrines up to you pastor; be able to show why they are wrong using scripture to back you up. Tell your friends in the congregation about the false teachings showing them scriptures as to why it’s wrong. If the pastor and congregation are not convicted and change, find another church.

God has never changed his message and he never will. When we start to do things the easy way or our own way, we start doing things against God. It always causes us to sin. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t make it right. Let’s get back to the basic doctrines of the Bible!

5 Days of Frugality – Frugal Maternity Clothing

Welcome to my series, 5 Days of Frugality. This series is a part of the 5 Days of Blogging Blog Hop, hosted by the Homeschool Crew! For the next 5 days, I will be posting a series of articles focusing on Frugality. I hope you will enjoy them! Be sure and check at the Homeschool Crew blog to catch a TON more articles on different subjects by other bloggers!

With my last  pregnancy, we were on a really tight budget and to make matters worse, I had just started wearing dresses only, so many of my old maternity clothing wouldn’t work for me. These are ideas that I used to expand my maternity clothing wardrobe without breaking the bank!

  •  When you HAVE to purchase maternity clothing, look first at garage sales, thrift shops, re-sale shops and then eBay…in that order. Your best deals will be found at garage sales, while purchasing in re-sale shops or eBay will lead you to higher priced items.
  • Only buy new when you REALLY have to and then purchase items that are versatile and classic in design. For example, a denim, khaki or black skirt, pants or jumper will match nearly anything. Keep your eyes open for clearance racks. I got several cute maternity shirts at Wal-Mart, Target & K-Mart for under $5.00.
  • Borrow maternity clothing when possible. Ask recently pregnant ladies at your church, family members and friends. For example, I got several cute maternity dresses from an online friend…all I had to do was pay for shipping (less than $10). All I did was ask and the offers came rolling it!
  • Borrow some items from your husband’s wardrobe. Go for more fitted items so they don’t look too manly.
  • Skirts & pants that button can still be used by using these simple gadgets called the Belly Belt or the Bella Band. It costs about $25 but it’s a great investment when you consider that you can wear your regular clothing instead of purchasing expensive maternity clothing. Even cheaper is to sew buttonholes on to both ends of a piece of elastic (whatever size you want/need). One end of the elastic fits over the existing button on the pants. Sew another button on the opposite side of the article of clothing and attaching the other end of the elastic to that button. This is a really inexpensive “fix”
For those of you that sew, you can also purchase pre-made “maternity panels” to sew into your existing skirts & pants.
  • If you wear dresses/skirts only, you can turn maternity jeans into skirts. You can find instructions at The Family Homestead.
  • If you own jumpers or empire waist dresses, you will most likely be able to wear them throughout most of your pregnancy.
  • You can wear your regular button up shirts under jumpers by leaving the last few buttons at the bottom unbuttoned. Since they’re under a jumper, no one will know! If you want to wear them with skirts or pants, just wear them unbuttoned over a T-shirt.
  • If you have maternity clothing that’s out of season, you can alter the items. Long sleeves can be shortened and pants and be altered into shorts.
  • Larger women’s sizes can be purchased much cheaper than Maternity clothing. This is a great source for T-shirts, blouses and elastic wasted pants. I found most of these on the clearance rack at Wal-Mart or other discount stores.
  • If you sew, you can sew your own maternity clothing for pretty reasonable prices. Choose 1-2 patterns and continue to reuse them. Most maternity patterns contain at least a combination of items. For example the one I bought had patterns for a jumper, shirt, skirt and shorts/pants all in one envelope. You can nearly always find inexpensive fabric at Wal-Mart starting at about $2.00 per yard or you use fabric from your stash.
  • Here’s a great article about How to Make Maternity Clothing from Existing Outfits.
  • If you live near an outlet mall, check out their maternity clothing. You can find some really inexpensive items that are factory seconds and on the clearance rack. We use to have a Motherhood Outlet Store at the one close by me and with my last pregnancy, I was able to get some cute things for between $5-$10. I was able to get shirts, jeans, skirts & dresses for these prices.
  • If the pants or skirt is tight enough in the hips, you can wear skirts or pants by leaving them unzipped. A long shirt will cover it.
  • Elastic waist pants & skirts can be worn “under the belly” with a long shirt to cover it. Just make sure they’re snug enough to stay up!

As you can see from these ideas, you can establish you maternity wardrobe without breaking the bank!

Some Thoughts About Being a Godly Wife & Feminine Friday Link-Up Party!

Several years ago, I was in a really bad place. Marty and I were constantly fighting and were not communicating at all. We were both holding in hurt and resentment until one of us would explode into a major fight. A lot of hurtful things were said by us both. We were on the verge of divorce. Something had to give! I prayed and prayed about it and came to realize that I could not change Marty, I could only change myself.

So, I started looking to God’s Word for instructions on how to be the wife the Lord wanted me to be. I was never taught submission growing up, nor was I taught that my husband was my head.

But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God. ~ I Corinthians 11:3 .

One day I ran across a book at the discount Bible store that started me on the right road. I found more and more. I searched God’s Word for the answers and I found them!

Since then, I am beginning to find the joy in being Marty’s wife. I let go the past. I let go my troubles and worries. I stopped trying to control every aspect of my life. I let go and let God take control. It was hard. I was afraid to let go, afraid of feeling out of control. But the funny thing is, the more I let go, the less fearful I became. The more I trusted God, the more joyful I felt. I still fall back into old patterns from time to time, but I’m doing better obeying God everyday. Each day is a new beginning.

I think my biggest fault was selfishness. Life wasn’t going as I planned it to. My will for my life did not match up with God’s will for my life. I selfishly thought I could have my own way. I was angry and frustrated that things were not going my way. Me! Me! Me! Me! I had to “put on” selflessness and “put off” selfishness. I had to live my life according to the Lord’s will, not mine.

I have learned that God commands wives to be submissive, to be in subjection to their husbands. Webster’s 1828 Dictionary defines Submissive and Subjection like this:

SUBMIS’SION, n. [L. submissio, from submitto.] 1. The act of submitting; the act of yielding to power or authority; surrender of the person and power to the control or government of another. 2. Acknowledgment of inferiority or dependence; humble or suppliant behavior. 3. Acknowledgment of a fault; confession or error. 4. Obedience; compliance with the commands or laws of a superior. Submission of children to their parents is an indispensable duty. 5. Resignation; a yielding of one’s will to the will or appointment of a superior without murmuring. Entire and cheerful submission to the will of God is a Christian duty of prime excellence.

SUBJECTION, n. 1. The act of subduing; the act of vanquishing and bringing under the dominion of another. 2. The state of being under the power, control and government of another. The safety of life, liberty, and property depends on our subjection to the laws. The isles of the West Indies are held in subjection to the powers of Europe. Our appetites and passions should be in subjection to our reason, and our will should be in entire subjection to the laws of God.

As a Christian I cannot pick and choose which commands of God I wish to follow. I must follow all His commands. I mast make a conscious decision every day to follow God’s commands. I must make my will God’s will.

I no longer expect Marty to meet all my needs. NO one can do that except the Lord. He knows what I really need before I even ask. He will supply me with all that I need. I should be content with what He chooses to give me, no matter how great or small it is. The is such a joy in contentment!

I have also learned not to trust my emotions, they can be so misleading. I really believe that Satan attacks many women’s faith through their emotions. The only thing you can truly trust in is God’s grace and unfailing love.

By being in submission to my husband, I am in compliance with God’s Word. My primary ministry is to Marty. God tells us that our husbands are our heads and that we should submit to them as we would submit to the Lord.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. ~ Ephesians 5:22 .

My relationship with the Lord comes first, then my relationship with Marty. All other relationships come after the Lord and Marty.

I pray daily for Marty. I have found that this makes all the difference. I don’t pray about all the long list of faults that run through my head. God knows Marty’s faults better than me. Instead I pray: (1.) That Marty is in a right relationship with the Lord. (2.) That the Lord does His will through Marty. (3.) That the Lord guides Marty to make the right decisions.

I also pray daily for myself. I pray: (1.) That the Lord changes my heart so that I can be in a right relationship with Him. (2.) That the Lord shows me how I can please Him. (3.) That the Lord shows me areas in my life where I am sinning or being disobedient. I cannot worry about Marty’s sins, I must only contemplate mine. It is so important to make my marriage a regular matter of prayer.

When I approach Marty with a problem, I must do so in a humble manner. I choose a time when he is relaxed and ready to give me his full attention. I think about what I’m going to say beforehand. I try to be specific and offer Scriptural reasons and solutions. I pray before I speak and proceed with a loving attitude.

God does not give us more than we can bear.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. ~ Philippians 4:13.

He is always by my side. When I think I can no longer walk, He carries me. Living and serving the Lord is a voluntary act. It is a decision I make everyday. Every day I must decide again to take up my cross and follow Him.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ~ Matthew 16:24.

True submission to the Lord and Marty brings incredible joy. I love God and Marty by being submissive to them.

God uses my trials, troubles and fears for my good. God uses these things to help me to grow and mature as a Christian. It’s my choice whether or not to respond to them in a Biblical manner. We are all sinners and failures, but God loved us so much that He gave us His only Son to be sin for us.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8.

Success comes only with obedience to God’s commands.
